How to ensure access and quality maternal health care for pregnant migrants & refugees?

Share-Net Netherlands kindly invites you for a thematic meeting on maternal health care for asylum seekers, undocumented migrants and asylum residence permit holders.

This meeting is organised by the Share-Net ‘Maternal Health’ Community of Practice (CoP) consisting of University Medical Centre Utrecht (UMCU), KIT Royal Tropical Institute, KNOV, the University of Amsterdam and the Working Party on International Safe Motherhood & Reproductive Health. Other involved organisations are NVOG and COA.

With the arrival of refugees in the past years, some initiatives regarding their maternal health were developed. Meanwhile, it has become evident that health outcomes for mothers and new-borns of this group stay behind. We will have to use this momentum, while the experiences are still fresh in people’s minds, to develop a comprehensive approach. In this way, we will be better prepared and able to avoid future mistakes.

The aim of this meeting is twofold:

  1. Network strengthening of stakeholders involved in maternity care for refugees and permit holders to learn from each other’s experiences, learn what is already done and challenges faced.
  2. Concrete recommendations and action plan to improve readiness for a next arrival of pregnant refugees to provide quality care for pregnant refugees and status holders.
