Share-Net Netherlands are delighted to welcome our new intern Bukola to the team! Bukola has written an introduction which you can read below:

I’m Bukola and I am from Manchester, England. I have a BA in International Relations and I recently moved to The Hague to study a master’s in International Organisation at Leiden University. During my undergraduate degree, I developed an interest in environmental politics and sustainability and I thought that further study would give me an opportunity to explore this. My enthusiasm for climate change also stems from my time as an employee for a fashion retailer. The fashion industry is one the world’s biggest pollutants and it is responsible for 10% of annual global carbon emissions. Working in this environment fundamentally transformed my views on the climate crisis, which greatly informed my decision to pursue this career path.

I am particularly interested in global and national efforts to mitigate climate change and how that impacts women’s rights across the world. I have experience volunteering for local women’s rights organisations in the UK and I will be a part of the UN Women UK delegation to the sixty-fifth session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW65) this March. I am writing my current master’s thesis on the effect of gender on climate governance and I am very excited to be contributing to the work of the Share-Net CoP on climate change and SRHR.

Outside of work and studying, I enjoy reading (my favourite author is Murakami), looking through fashion archives and shopping for vintage clothes.
