We are super excited to have a new addition to our Share-Net International team! Dorine Thomissen has joined our team as the Share-Net International Coordinator. Read Dorine’s introduction below!

Who am I?

Hello! I am Dorine, and I am very excited to start my new role as the coordinator of Share-Net International. I am Dutch, originally from the most southern part of the Netherlands. Even though I already moved to Amsterdam to study and have spent some long periods abroad, I am very proud that my typical southern accent has remained.

What did I do in the past?

I started my studies with Medical Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam but continued at the University of Nijmegen after my first-year examination. I hold a Master’s Degree in Development Studies from the Centre for International Development (CIDIN), and a Master’s Degree in Public Health – Health Promotion, from the London School for Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. My passion and the focus of my work has always been Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights. Previously I worked with VSO as a programme manager and coordinator in Indonesia, later as a technical assistant with Mott MacDonald/Euroconsult in Yemen. The past 8 years, I have been with Simavi, managing and developing programmes in Africa and Asia, amongst others the Get Up Speak Out (GUSO) programme, through which I got very familiar with many Share-Net members and their work.

What I am doing here?

I will be coordinating SNI but also strategizing towards the future. This I will do this together with all the SNI country hubs and I am very happy that 3 new hubs have been selected now. I will also represent SNI in international fora and lead on the development of strategic partnerships with international partners, identifying new ways of collaboration to increase the international outreach of the platform. Being end responsible for delivering SNI overall activities, there will be many more tasks and I am still figuring out where I can be of the best support.

What am I expecting?

I expect to learn, strategize and grow TOGETHER, and inspire each other. I like to build bridges, bring people together and connect. Practically with the less usual suspects, for example, professionals, organizations and companies from outside our SRHR “bubble”.

Out of the office?

In my previous job, I have developed a menstrual health project in Indonesia which is currently transforming into a social enterprise. I am still involved as an advisor. I like to walk (run sometimes) and to be outside. But I can also really enjoy the “art of doing nothing”, enjoying comfort food or watch Netflix under a blanket. Most of my free time I spend with my two fabulous daughters.
