About

The COVID-19 pandemic is now a major global health threat with 7 million cases and 402,000 deaths reported to WHO (8 June 2020), incurring grave societal and economic consequences, severe supply chain interruptions for medical, diagnostic and infection prevention commodities and impact on the health delivery system in many countries.

Even through this pandemic, meeting the needs of people who live with or are at risk of HIV has never been more important. HIV self-testing (HIVST) can play a critical role in ensuring the continuity of HIV testing services during this time, as it provides an opportunity to adhere to physical distancing guidance and reduce the risk of exposure transmission for both beneficiaries and health care providers.

In this first installment of the webinar series, we will be sharing Unitaid’s STAR/ATLAS Technical Guide  “Considerations for HIVST in the Context of COVID-19” with case studies from South Africa, Eswatini and Kenya. Our speakers will present on best practices, solutions and experiences gained through case studies on strategic leveraging of HIVST to continue HIV testing services during the COVID-19 pandemic.
