Diversity in Human Sexuality: Implications for Policy in Africa

This report produced by the Academy of Science of South Africa examines the extent to which science supports arguments that proponents of laws criminalising sexual and gender diversity make. It draws on recent scientific evidence and systematic reviews to provide an up-to-date overview of the state of the current biological, socio-psychological, and public health evidence and assess how this supports, or contests, the key arguments made in favour of new laws. The report concludes that it is evident that contemporary science increasingly recognises the wide range of natural variation in human sexuality, sexual orientations and gender identities.
