Wrapping up: Linking Research, Policy, and Practice 2024

Photography by Joey Castro

On Thursday November 7th, at International Institute of Social Studies (ISS), over 60 advocates for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) gathered to delve into the remarkable work of 11 student researchers in the field. Through two rounds of parallel sessions, participants explored pressing topics such as obstetric violence, abortion rights, inclusive reproductive health, menstruation, gendered health experiences, access to healthcare for vulnerable communities, and more. The Linking Research, Policy, and Practice (LRPP) conference fostered a dynamic space for collaboration, bringing together policymakers, practitioners, and academics to bridge gaps and align efforts in translating research into impactful policy and practice.

To conclude the day, Prof.Dr. Wendy Harcourt moderated an engaging panel discussion on what it truly takes to translate research into advocacy. Dr. Kalpana Wilson, Vladislav Velizanin, and Dr. Silke Huemann shared their expertise on bridging the gap between research and advocacy. They highlighted the passions driving SRHR work, addressed the challenges posed by anti-gender movements, and outlined essential pathways for researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to collaborate effectively. Their insights offered valuable guidance for building resilient, forward-thinking strategies in the field of SRHR.
